One of the areas I think a revised St. A site really needs is the addition of People photos -- preferably members. Stock photos are just that. There are obviously "clearance" issues and concerns for safety (crime, spousal, child abuse victims should not be shown). But a release from members and a notation on their member file in whatever ChMS plus a friendly I'd like to use this photo of you should go a long way to address potential negatives.
Seeing people the real people in the church really gives a picture of the congregation that web site visitor selecting a church would love.

my bad. i may have forgotten to mention that i DID setup a photo gallery using ZenPhoto a while ago....

while they aren't "integrated" into the pages of the site (a design decision on my part -- and perhaps a bad one), there was a way for members (and visitors) to view the activities and congregants.
it was formerly linked from the homepage and part of the navigation. i removed it when i began paring down the site for manageability.
ZenPhoto is a great free, open source photo gallery that also allows for video, audio, documents, etc.

photos (good ones! -- professional-looking ones) require quite a bit of preparation, editing, and of course a solid foundation of photography.
ReplyDeletesince i was wearing many hats, i rarely had time (or the desire to lug heavy camera equipment) along with the other equipment i had to deal with.
one thing that might be cool is to integrate something like a self-updating twitter feed that enables registered site users to submit a single photo to a live photo stream. i dunno if that's capable yet, but it would be sooooo neat.
