Church Marketing 101 Book
The Book || The official website of Richard Reising
This "must read" (we're not just saying that--look at what others are saying below) is a handbook to building a contageous church. Whether you are a marketing guru or novice, you will find it inspiring, encouraging, and hopeful. It’s everything you’ve been secretly thinking about church since you’ve been at church, but it’s also the solutions that churches are needing. In this book, Richard breaks down marketing principles and brand strategy by offering fresh insight into what both creates and hinders church growth. Built on a strong biblical foundation, he reveals how small changes can have a big impact on growth. Strategic marketing can set your church apart, creating the momentum to change the life of your church and your community for eternity. Bottom line: it’s worth the read.

Monvee took the webinar
Their system continues to look intriguing and possibly a good match with re-engaging the 45 and less or non-regular attendees to compliment Alternative Worship. It is very Web 3.0 which is good for us techies but they are addressing how to be friendly to those less computer savvy. Pricing right now is somewhat affordable over all especially since they are waiving a lot of the fees they will charge in the future, in exchange for participating in the beta. Beta pricing is based on % of annual budget, # of average monthly adult attendees, % of those we plan to include & reach -- formula sounds difficult but it is not.
Will continue to research and see where it takes me. They stress "disciples need to be handcrafted, they can't be mass produced."
I'm communicating with Jamie George @ Monvee who is Episcopalian herself and trying to build up a ministry to the unchurched / youth / Gen X. So there is a good level of understanding of cultural/church issues vs. only evangelic mega-church or new seed churches. Which has been an issue for some of the other tools and ChMS's I've looked at.

Join the Choir Sunday - Lift Every Voice & Sing
Concept that you can show up at 9:15, get on the robes and go through some practice time with the choir/music director. When service is over get your picture taken in the robes and let people share that with friends & family. We'd give tools to people i.e. email w/graphic to share that they could send to friends and family to invite them that sunday.
We could video or audio record the singing and post online so people could share that with friends.
We could do a gospel lunch/brunch if the response was good after the first time.
Would need to pick hymns/gospel songs that are widely known and in a normal key. Might encourage a few attendees to join the choir.

Using Pentecost Sunday as a Re-Welcoming Day / Second Push
Besides an early target for using Holy Week for potential kick start to welcoming efforts the next major day in the church Calendar we could sync up and do a second outreach using the lessons learned would be Pentecost.
Pentecost (May 23rd) could be our big push to get Welcoming done right and do a real marketing campaign with follow-up survey. Format could be to focus on that Family Reunion, Re-welcoming / Revitalizing the Church / Raise the Spirits. Not sure if we ar near any specific anniversary year or not but that too could be a theme/message.

Free WiFi for the local community around the church
Community Free WiFi?
One idea that Ed and I have discussed a few times is providing Free Internet to the nearby community. Hardware investment would be greater than just solving our own problem but we might be able to get a grant for this directly/indirectly.
One local new potential community partner in this is the Teen Green & Media Center that opened a block down in the former Covenant House location. Our steeple / building height (would need to be done in a way not to hurt the building or the historic status of it) might be a good place to locate it while they might have access to funding sources or donors.
If there is a reticence to making the church itself a community center physically there very well may be ways to do it virtually and give something back to the immediate area.
It could also be an advertising tool as people could be forced to see a landing page (that could have things like our calendar, etc.) and agree to certain terms before gatewaying out. Similarly a code could be required that we then used to force them to interact with us like on a weekly basis.
Yes we could limit the access to adult sites. Yes we could do some bandwidth management that keeps enough bandwidth for our uses in the church i.e. technically run 2 different wifi networks giving priority to the private network first.

Options for Internet inside St. A's Church itself
We could potential setup a "repeater" of the office DSL into the church -- but this would require building to building wiring or worse a less than optimal wifi link to bridge and then repeat. Higher "gain" antennas have not really worked for me in the past to solve this unless you buy very high end equipment on both sides.
DSL could be added to the phone line in the sacristy.
Other Wireless Internet options that are more "fixed" i.e. non-moveable but higher speed -- would need to place an antenna on the outside of a church building.
Pros:
Access to members attending meetings
Allow for training and doing "business" tasks onsite before/after the service
Allow for "broadcast" of services specifically weddings, funerals, etc.
Potential attendance tracking solutions to post directly to the web
"Picture Facebook" help those in ministry have a quick directory of people / pictures / contact info
Cons:
Cost vs. Benefit / Return on the Investment
How important is this need vs. any others?

Co-Op Shared Resources
Besides an advertising budget and a advertising strategy - what else do we need?
Coordinated outreach and PR for "free media" -- this means setting up a list and managing that list actively. This means hiring a PR firm/person who can help develop angles/pitches and then has the relationships to make that coverage happen.
Part of it will actually be developing some demographic targets and then doing events, activities, inclusion in a unique way. The goal is to both ge tthe marketing campaign buzz and media coverage but also to get other human interest pieces and community calendar listings for individual churches.

Decent email CRM/marketing/campaign functionality
Functionality of interest integrated into Kingdom Tools:
- Create custom newsletters that you can distribute to your whole database, or to specific groups or individuals inside of your database
- Enjoy this great tool for promoting upcoming events; include an RSVP link to allow recipients to register online for an event
- Easily create optional follow-up pieces that will be automatically sent to recipients who have not RSVP'd by a certain date, and another follow-up that is automatically sent to those who have not registered yet
- Include a "Send to a Friend" link; recipients easily forward mailpiece to others using this link, and mailpiece is automatically personalized for their friend
- Their friend's contact information is automatically added to a specific group in your database
- Great for keeping visitors and church community aware and connected.

Purchasing Address Lists & "Move-in" Lists
One area that a co-op marketing group could do to reach out pretty cost effectively is to purchase and plan mailers and mail campaign pieces.
Purchasing address lists may be an excellent way to target out an outreach/marketing campaign. Purchasing change of address lists i.e. people moving into the area and other "new home owner" mailing lists might be one of the best ROI groups for "blind" solicitations.
Other "Public Record" type names if legal might be another source i.e. marriage, child birth, etc. Voter file might also be a good source.
